Let's Put an End to Dating and Domestic Violence

10/4/2020

Every year, right around 10 million people become victims of domestic violence, which equates to just about 20 people every minute.
The next time you are in a room with 6 or more other people, consider:
  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience violence from their partners in their lifetimes.
  • 1 in 3 teens experience sexual or physical abuse or threats from a boyfriend or girlfriend in one year.
  • 1 in 5 women are survivors of rape.
  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced sexual violence in their lives.
  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men were sexually abused before the age of 18.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of employment or educational level, race or ethnicity, religion, marital status, physical ability, age, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. It affects not only women, but men and children, of all different races, status, religions, and culture. No one is immune to it.

In this video, I offer suggestions on how to be a support to friends or family members that are survivors of dating and domestic violence. With education and action, we can take steps to end dating and domestic violence!
