I have always considered therapy a “gift” and

the decision to work with a therapist a

proactive sign of self-compassion and courage

as well as a healthy statement about one’s

desire to learn, grow, and heal.

Depression & Anxiety
Have you or your loved one been feeling depressed or anxious? Does it affect you on most days and seem to persist no matter what?
Depression and anxiety are also known to manifest in physical symptoms, such as sleep difficulties, changes in eating habits, changes in energy, headaches, stomachaches, panic or anxiety attacks, and increased physical pain. Untreated over time, clinical depression and anxiety can progress, making it harder to manage. Research shows that therapy alone or some combination of medication and therapy works best.
Older Adults
Some of the issues I commonly address among older adults include grief, caregiver stress, memory change and loss, and clinical depression and anxiety, particularly if they have chronic illnesses (such as heart disease or cancer) or are living with changes in functioning and independence level.
Diabetes
Diabetes can be a life changing condition that can impact many aspects of one’s life. The changes and self-management responsibilities of this condition can be a challenge. You may find yourself asking why did this happen, and struggle to adapt. I address many of the emotional struggles that patients with diabetes experience, as these can impact the body and behaviors. My overall goal in treatment is to help patients with diabetes stabilize via self-management so that they can live their lives more fully.

Pain
Pain medicine Researchers and Professionals support the use of psychological interventions in the treatment of pain. I instruct patients about pain psychology interventions as part a team approach that includes physical therapy, pain management, massage therapists, etc. Aside from specifically targeting pain and coping, I also address the effects of pain upon emotions, daily activities, and relationships. All types of pain can be life changing. Accordingly, I aim to bring healing and wholeness in the important areas of your life.

Empowered Relief Class for Pain Management
I am trained and certified to teach this single session, two hour evidence-based, skill building class for individuals living with all types of pain. Healthcare providers, corporate administrators, or community leaders are invited to inquire about how to schedule a class within their organization or group. Participants in this program are encouraged to bring friends and family members and will:
  • Learn about pain and what to do to help oneself
  • Gain pain relief skills to use right away
  • Develop a personal plan for pain relief
The Empowered Relief program  was developed at Stanford University (Beth Darnall, PhD) with grant research funding from the National Institute of Health. “Empowered Relief” is now delivered internationally and embedded into the following organizations.
